Vintage MCM Weinberg Metal Illuminated Bird House Cage Atomic Mid Century Modern 50s

$2,450.00

Shipping to United States: $300.00

ITEM: For your consideration we are presenting for sale a rare vintage atomic era illuminated bird house designed by Frederic Weinberg. This birdhouse is constructed of three different pieces. The main birdhouse on legs, a square base caged planter on the bottom, and an illuminated, wooden atomic ball topper. The topper rests atop the cage directly, and the birdhouse rests atop the wooden floor of the metal planter base (see photos). There is a front entrance door to the bird house, and a metal tray lining the bottom of the house to catch waste. We've included an original catalogue photo of the birdcage, with the only difference being the ornate wire surrounding the front entrance door.

MEASUREMENTS: The cage itself measures approx. 32.5" tall x 18.5" wide x 18.5" deep. With the attached legs, it stands approx. 50.25" tall. The square planter base at the very bottom measures approx. 11" tall x 24.5" wide x 24.5" deep. The interior wooden planter shelf withing the box is approx. 5.5" off the ground surface. The illumination atomic topper measures approx. 19" tall x 19.25" wide x 19.25" deep. When all three pieces are stacked together, the item measures approx. 74" tall.

CONDITION: Very good vintage condition - no breaks, bends, repairs, etc. There is some light scattered black paint loss throughout, but nothing objectionable, given its age. There's a little bit of spotty surface rust on the bottom square planter which can clean up nicely. These bird houses typically had a banding a bamboo matchstick lining around the perimeter of the bottom planter, as well as around the lower perimeter of the topper (see original catalogue photo) - those are gone - currently there is no wrap around lining on the planter, and the topper just has some wooden panels in place. The pull out metal tray has some color loss on the top surface. The light socket contained within the topper does not currently work, so it will need rewiring. This birdhouse is structurally solid, and displays nicely. Being sold "as-is", and "as-described". Please ask any questions that you may have prior to purchasing, and we will respond back to you in a timely manner.

PLEASE NOTE: While this item does come apart into three separate pieces, it is still very large which will make shipping very expensive. We do not object to shipping; however, buyer will be fully responsible for whatever the shipping charges end up being (the amount in the listing is just an estimate, so it could fluctuate up or down as we do not have the item package currently). We'd prefer local pick-up, or if you are within 50 miles of Downtown St. Louis, we can arrange to do a door-to-door delivery for a nominal fee.
